I joined Emma’s classes as a complete beginner to Pilates and have loved every minute.  Emma is exceptionally knowledgeable and a very friendly, patient and encouraging teacher.  Starting a new form of exercise and a new class is always slightly daunting but Emma is so welcoming and puts you at ease straight away.


The studio is like a peaceful oasis away from the stresses of everyday life and I always leave feeling calm and positive and more aware of my posture and body. I am looking forward to many more happy years of Pilates with Emma.

I have been attending classes with Emma for a number of years and now enjoy the studio she has set up at Discover Pilates.


I really look forward to my weekly class, all levels are catered for and exercises adapted to allow for fitness levels. I always feel that I have challenged my body after a class and have benefitted from increased core strength and overall fitness. The sculpt class has helped to tone my body and clear a niggling back problem by improving my core and posture.


I am not great at mindfulness and relaxing but Emma has the ability to incorporate this well into the sessions meaning I always go home feeling that I have challenged my body and calmed my mind.


I look forward to each class and would have no hesitation in recommending Discover Pilates.

2 years ago I had a prolonged period suffering with sciatica, managed with physio and sports massage. The physio recommended I start Pilates to improve core strength. I contacted Emma after ‘googling’ Pilates in Bideford and was able to join one of her classes at the Art Centre. I was made very welcome by the class and Emma. 


The class starts on time and finishes on time. There is a period of relaxation and mindfulness at the end of class which I have come to enjoy more as time has gone on, (I’ve never been great at being rather than doing). There is an explanation of what we re trying to achieve at the start of the class and right from my first one it was evident Emma knew her clients very well, she is very adept at amending routines to take into account any conditions that need it. She is quick to spot when clients are not conducting routines safely or effectively and is expert at anticipating the ways we might do things wrong - this has been particularly noticeable while conducting classes on Zoom during COVID. There is very often the suggestion of more or less challenging ways to do an exercise. Her ability to count while giving direction is to be admired. 


Emma is friendly but professional. She responds quickly to any e mail queries or feedback. I missed her classes immensely when COVID required lockdown and was delighted when she set up her Zoom groups. They have been great but I hope we will get back together in class soon. Meanwhile I have only had occasional warnings of sciatica and no need for sports massages.

We have been attending Discover Pilates classes since Emma started up. Emma is very patient and supportive and we always find her classes well taught with a strong emphasis on core strength, balance and correct breathing. She always gives alternatives for moves that need to accommodate varied capabilities.


In the current Covid19 lockdown Emma has provided regular live Zoom classes which are then posted on the internet, so that members can follow up the classes at their leisure and convenience.


In conclusion we are both very happy to strongly recommend Discover Pilates

I have been fortunate to have been to Emma's Pilates sessions over a number of years.  Emma makes each session very good and we never get bored with it because they are always different.  I missed Pilates very much when we were unable to go to the sessions and am glad to be going again as I always feel better afterwards.

Emma’s classes are just right - fun, challenging and a nice mix of using equipment and traditional mat work.  Emma explains the moves really well, always gives lots of options and alternatives. The studio is convenient and well equipped and it’s easy to park.

Emma is an excellent teacher of Pilates, she’s observant of everyone in class and never expects anyone to do anything they aren’t comfortable with. Her classes are enjoyable and over all too quickly.

This week I attended my first ever Pilates Class and absolutely loved it ❤️ Emma is very friendly, welcoming and a fantastic teacher. I immediately felt relaxed upon entering the studio and was able to carry out all exercises confidently after Emma’s clear and concise instructions. I walked away at the end of the class feeling happy and better physically and mentally.  I’m very much looking forward to returning next week ❤️

I was a little apprehensive about joining this HIIT class as I am 60 years young! but I absolutely love it.  It is great fun and we laugh a lot (and sweat a lot!).  When Emma let me know that a space had become available I was wondering if I was going to be able to keep up but as usual Emma demonstrates different levels for each exercise depending on your level of fitness and how energetic you are feeling.  Really love and look forward to this class.

I have really enjoyed attending Pilates Hit, I wasn’t sure what to expect as I haven’t attended Pilates at all and so had no idea what a Hit class might entail. From the first session, Emma  made me feel comfortable and supported, she gives excellent direction and adaptations according to ability. The studio is a lovely size not too big so that you feel intimidated but not so small that it doesn’t feel professional.  The 45 minute workout is well coordinated and allows me to feel like I have done enough to benefit from the exercise, but not over done it. Emma is enthusiastic, has a great sense of humour and able to make everyone feel at ease which reflects in the fact that we all keep going back for more! I highly recommend to anyone from beginner to enthusiast.

Enjoyable sessions that are designed to stretch and strengthen all parts of the body. I leave feeling fitter and stronger in mind and body

Emma is a great, friendly  teacher with clear instructions and encourages you to go at your own pace.

I love this class!  Emma spends time each week to make each session different incorporating some equipment at times, but always has various options for all abilities.  Each part of the body is targeted and you can really feel the benefit!  Emma is amazingly warm, friendly and always makes the class light hearted.
